About Us
Marana Bat Haven was founded by two determined friends that want to help heal the environment! Living in the Sonoran Desert, we’ve seen both beauty and destruction when looking out into nature. The more we learned the more we realized we could, and should, do something to help expand the beauty that once would’ve fully surrounded us. We’ll implement simple techniques that compound positively over time, and with some hard work and a little help, we’re confident our impact will carry through generations. In order to gently restore broken ecosystems of the Sonoran Desert, we’ll focus on three main things…
Veganic Permaculture
This includes creating water catches (like swales), planting native trees, and sometimes introducing fruit bearing trees very strategically.
Gentle Nature Conservation
Currently, we only intend to offer passive support to animals needing help. Some animals that are extremely vital to the health of the Sonoran Desert, like bats, are threatened. By supplying water for them to drink, creating more nectar for them to eat, and houses for them to nest — we can make existence significantly easier.
Inspiring Others
We hope to give products, services, and education to empower others to help how they can. Eventually we want to offer soil, seeds, plants, planting guides, permaculture strategies, conservation considerations, landscaping assistance, and even lead classes.
Short Term Goals
- Sign a long-term lease on (or purchase) a few acres of land in the Sonoran Desert
- Plant and heathily establish 2OO-5OO trees using veganic permaculture methods
- Build and install ~3O bat houses
- Begin educating people on veganic permaculture and gentle nature conservation
- Develop income streams that allow progression without direct donations
Long Term Goals
- Sign a long-term lease on (or purchase) 1O+ acres of land in the Sonoran Desert
- Plant and heathily establish +1,OOO trees using veganic permaculture methods
- Build and install +1OO bat houses
- Deeply educate neighbors on veganic permaculture and gentle nature conservation
- Offer products/service that help enable individuals to do their own conservation
There’s a lot needed to accomplish our goals!
We have solid plans, the physical ability and mental drive to see them through, but the financial cost is something we need your help with. We take pride in being extremely resourceful and finding the best-value deals, but in order to: lease (or buy) land to restore, secure sufficient water, obtain trees, get building supplies and some necessary tools, any donations would be extremely helpful. Whether it’s a one-time or recurring donation, a purchase through our shop, or choosing us on Amazon Smile, it’s very much appreciated!
